Attracted to this, foreign portfolio investment (FPI) in India is increasing continuously in the current financial year (2020-21). In this financial year till February 19, foreign investors have invested more than 2 lakh 51 thousand crores in Indian markets. Earlier, the maximum investment of more than 2 lakh 77 thousand crore came in the financial year 2014-15.

Financial services sector leads
Sector-wise, the maximum investment of $ 191.3 billion was made in the financial services sector. The insurance sector, including software, oil and gas, is also among the top 10 most invested sectors. According to a report, share market accounts for a large share of the total investment. Investors have so far invested $ 537.4 billion in the domestic stock market and $ 51.38 billion in the bond market.

Corona was impressed –
According to the data, FPI investment was weak during 2018-19 and 2019-20. The Corona epidemic was the reason for weak foreign investment in FY 2019-20, as the stock market fell by nearly 35 per cent due to the lockdown announcement in March.
